WHO PAY FOR THE AUDIOBOOK PRODUCTION?
WE COVER ALL THE INITIAL COSTS and pay for the production of the audiobook. Later on, the revenue of the audiobook covers the production costs. Saga Storify do the marketing and distribution of the book as part of the service, and this work won't have to be covered by the book revenue. You don’t have to pay anything at any point of the process.
WHEN AND HOW OFTEN WILL I RECEIVE ROYALTIES?
WE OFFER YOU A ROYALTY RATE OF 25%. You will start to earn royalties after the recouping of the initial production costs which means narration and cover. We pay you your royalties once every year.
Exactly when your audiobook has fully covered its own production expenses varies a great deal. Some of our audiobooks recoup in the first year, but a recoup during the second year is more likely. In the end, it depends entirely on how the readers receive the book.
Twice a year you get an email that shows, how your book is doing. This way you can keep track of the recoupment.
HOW DOES THE COPYRIGHT AND LEGAL elements WORK?
BY SENDING US YOUR MANUSCRIPT you accept our terms and conditions.
Even though we cover the production costs, you will still own the copyright to the book. We own the rights to the audiobook-file as long as the contract is valid.
WHAT DO I GIVE PERMISSION TO IF I SEND MY MANUSCRIPT TO YOU?
YOU GIVE US PERMISSION to read your manuscript and the exclusive right to publish it as an audiobook. The exclusivity is valid from the day you send us your manuscript and the following 8 weeks. If the manuscript meets our publishing criteria and we get back to you with an offer to publish your book, our terms and conditions are still valid. At this point you will be offered a contract which you can either accept or reject. If we get back to you with a ‘no’, or if you choose to reject the contract, the exclusivity will end automatically. Read more about our terms and conditions here.
WHAT PUBLISHING CRITERIA DO YOU HAVE?
WHEN YOU SEND US YOUR MANUSCRIPT we take some time to consider if it is compatible with our publication criteria. If that is the case we get back to you with the message that we would like to publish it, and cover all the production costs.
Saga Storify’s publication criteria:
A / The manuscript should be of high quality.
B / The manuscript should already have been published.
C / The manuscript should not be offensive or contrary to everyone’s equal value.
D / The manuscript should have a great market potential. This assessment is made by the team behind Saga Storify.
HOW LONG TIME DOES IT TAKE BEFORE I HEAR FROM YOU?
ONCE YOU HAVE SENT US YOUR MANUSCRIPT and gotten the confirmation email telling you we have received it (check your inbox for this) we will get back to you with an answer within 8 weeks.

We will also make sure your audiobook has a really nice cover that works well for the genre and new format of your book. It takes 6-18 months to produce your audiobook. Are you more curious about the production process? See our step-by-step description here.
HOW LONG TIME DOES THE PRODUCTION TAKE?
THE PRODUCTION TAKES AROUND 6-18 MONTHS, and we will get back to you with updates about the publication date and production process.
Can I USE THE EXISTING COVER OF MY BOOK FOR THE AUDIOBOOK VERSION?
SOMETIMES IT IS POSSIBLE. Often we produce a new cover that really sets your audiobook apart and unleash the potential of your audiobook. Whether or not to produce a new cover is a decision made by the editorial team on a case-by-case basis.
HOW DOES THE RELEASE AND MARKETING WORK?
ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED A PUBLICATION DATE, you can start to market the book yourself. We highly recommend that you take an active part in the promotion, since it most often will reflect positively on the performance of the book - but that is of course up to you.
The capable marketing team behind Saga Storify will also do specialised audiobook marketing for your book.
The standard marketing package contains:
/ Mention in Saga Storify’s newsletter
/ SoMe-post @sagastorify
/ Presentation of your book to marketing managers at streaming services
WHERE will MY READERS FIND MY AUDIOBOOK?
SAGA STORIFY WORK WITH THE BIGGEST DISTRIBUTORS within all markets. We distribute your audiobook to the biggest audiobook platforms, streaming services and digital bookstores.
What if my audiobook doesn't make a profit?
SAGA STORIFY COVER ALL THE INITIAL COST for the production of your audiobook. Once we have recouped the production costs we will pay you 25% in royalties. All the initial costs are paid by us, which means that you don’t have to pay anything, neither upfront, nor afterwards. The risk is ours.
This also means, that if the revenue of the book stays lower than our initial costs for the production, you will not get any royalties. But this is something that we, as far as possible, is trying to avoid through our selection process. This is why we have our publishing criteria. You can read more about them above.
That being said, there is still a small risk the revenue for the book never gets higher than the production costs, but in any case, the risk is 100% ours. You do not invest in the production, so you never risk losing money.
When can I expect to get paid?
THAT DEPENDS A LOT ON THE PRODUCTION PRICE and the commercial success of the book. The experience we have this far points towards the audiobook having its turnover after a year. Since we pay royalties on an annual basis, you would receive payment by the 2nd year in this scenario.
Nothing is certain when it comes to readership, but one thing is for sure: The Saga Storify team is just as determined as you to make the audiobook a success on the market!
How much does it cost to produce an audiobook with Saga Storify?
SAGA STORIFY COVERS THE PRODUCTION COST FOR THE AUDIOBOOK which means that you don’t have to pay anything for the production, and take no risk. The up-front costs are then covered by the revenue of the book. The royalty model for your book within Saga Storify means that you will start gain royalty once the production cost is covered.
Production prices varies depending on the length of the book and the salary of the narrator we choose. Generally, the price is between 995 EUR and 2485 EUR for a book of 200 pages.
Saga Storify have made great deals with studios around the world meaning we get beneficial prices for you while still maintaining a high level of quality.
It is our mutual interest that the book will succeed, why we choose a narrator that we, based upon our previous experience from several years of publishing audiobooks around the world, believe will help your book to gain a high number of sales and streams, as soon as possible.
WHY DO YOU DO THIS? DO YOU HAVE something you want to accomplish?
YES, WE DO HAVE MISSION. We do this because our ambition is to make the audiobook-world more accessible. Until today, it’s been quite expensive to produce, distribute and publish an audiobook. It’s also rather difficult to access the biggest retailers for the downloading and streaming service of an audiobook. Our mission is to change this and make the audiobook world easier to enter for you as an author. We do it by covering the productions costs and open our established distribution channels to the biggest audiobook platforms and shops on the market. Now we wonder if you want to join us on this journey - do you?
WILL I HAVE INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITIES?
SINCE SAGA STORIFY IS A PART OF THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING HOUSE SAGA there is a possibility that your audiobook will be distributed and maybe even translated to more languages and countries around the world. This is regulated in the contract; by signing the contract you will give us exclusive rights to publish and distribute the work in all languages. This is not anything we can guarantee, but it is a possibility. The option depends on the sale and streaming data of the audiobook, within the original country. This is a decision that is made by the editorial team behind Saga Storify.
WHAT KIND OF VOICE WILL YOU USE FOR MY AUDIOBOOK?
SAGA STORIFY COOPERATE WITH PREMIUM RECORDING STUDIOS in many different countries, providing you with the best voices in many different languages. The editorial team behind Saga Storify will choose an appropriate voice that gives your book the best potential to succeed. This is a voice of a real human being, meaning that it isn't AI-based or computer generated. He or she will record the book in the studio, to give your book the best possible quality.
WHAT DOES SAGA STORIFY'S "RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL" MEAN?
BY SIGNING OUR STANDARD CONTRACT you will give us exclusive rights to publish your book as an audiobook via streaming and download services.
The contract also includes so-called 'rights of first refusal' for Saga Storify. Here is what that means:
If you get a request from another potential partner (publishing house, film production company or any other professional party) asking permission to:
A / Publish your title as a printed book (soft and hardcover) to be sold retail,
B / Negotiate the rights to have the title made into a motion picture production such as a movie or television series or theater production, or
C / Make audiobooks of prequals, sequals or spin-offs of your title
Saga Storify will do our best so match this offer. If we cannot match the offer, the rights will automatically belong to you. If we can, we will assume these rights and make sure that your title is unfolded in the best way possible through us and our business partners.
